geomantic fragments

Geomancy harnesses the energy and patterns of the Earth to gain insight into the past, present, and future. By analyzing markings, formations, and alignments, practitioners uncover hidden meanings from the natural world. I reinterpret this ancient practice with hydrochromancy in my geomantic fragment series, using watercolor, salt, and ink to recreate the whispers of stones and sediments.  Reminiscent of mineral fragments and geodes, this series eschews direct representation of specific elements to invite the viewer to find their own stories while considering the organic textures and patterns. The use of iridescent watercolors also means that these works take on different colors depending on how the light hits them, adding another layer of complexity and interest. (2022)
